Inlaid Glass Frame

This is what we will be making

Lorikeet on branch

I got the idea for this frame from a tutorial by Suz. Check out her tutorial here.

You will need the following items:

Paint Shop Pro, get it here: www.jasc.com and
This ZIP FILE which contains the 100rr.bmp - Place the .bmp in this folder:
My Documents>My PSP8 Files>Patterns.
Note: The 100rr.bmp glass image is courtesy of Spectrum glass.

Note: Your image should be kept selected throughout the entire tutorial.

Note: Don't forget to save often!

Let's begin!

1. Open the image you want to frame. It should be no more than 300 to 400 pixels on the largest size. Crop it, or resize it and sharpen it if neccessary. Copy it (Ctrl+C) so it will be saved on the clipboard.

2. Go to Selections>select all, then Selections>Modify>Contract and contract the selection by 35 pixels.

3. Create a new layer, then paste your copy into the selection on the new layer (Edit>Paste>Paste into Selection).

4. Go to Selections>Float (Ctrl+F). Go to Effects>3D Effects>Cutout and use the following settings:

Vertical=3
Horizontal=3
Opacity=80
Blur=15.00
Fill Interior with Color=Unchecked
Shadow Color Black
(or a lighter color if you have a very dark image)

5. Repeat the cutout, but change the Vertical and Horizontal to -3 (minus 3).

6. Go to Selections>Defloat, then go to Selections>Invert>. Change to your background layer and flood fill the selection with a color from your image.

7. Go to Selections>Modify>Contract and contract the selection by 6 pixels.

8. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Chisel and use these settings:

Size=3
Solid Color
Color=Either a color from your image or black, your choice.
I prefer using black myself! :-)

9. Go to Selections>Modify>Contract and contract the selection by 4 pixels, then repeat step 8.

10. Go to Selections>Modify>Contract and contract the selection by 2 pixels.

11. Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Sculpture. Using the drop down arrow, locate the 100rr bitmap, and use these settings:

sculpture settings

12. Go to Selections>Modify>Contract and contract the selection by 1 pixels.

13. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow and use these settings:

drop shadow settings

14. Repeat Step 13, but change the Horizontal and Vertical to -1 (minus 1).

15. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel and use these settings:

Inner bevel settings

Deselect. (Finally!...Whew!)

Add your name, merge your layers, if you haven't already done so, and save.

Your frame is done!

Variation: Add some dingbats for that extra little pizzazz!
