Wicker Plate Holder

This is what we will be making

Wicker Plate Holder

To do this tutorial you need Paint Shop Pro 8, which you can get here: www.jasc.com.
and my gradient. Download it here. Unzip the file and put the gradient into the My Documents>My PSP8 Files>Gradients.

Let´s begin!

1. Create a new transparent image, 350pixels by 350 pixels.

2. Add a new layer, then floodfill it with the sandscape-ns gradient (or any gradient you like).

Click arrow to locate gradient

3. Go to Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise. Use 50% noise, Gaussian, Monochrome.

4. Go to Effects>Texture Effects>Tiles. Use the default setting.

Tile settings

5. Go to Effects>Distortion Effects>Polar Coordinates. Use these settings:

6. Let's get rid of that seam! Grab your Freehand Selection tool. Use these settings:

Now make a jagged selection around the area to the left of the seam like this:

Closeup of selection

Be sure you include the tile edges in the selection!

7. Copy, de-select, then paste as a new layer. Use the Deformation tool to line up the new layer so it matches as closely as possible.

8. Go to your Layer Palette, turn off layer 1 (the original, blank layer), right click and choose Merge>Merge Visible.

9. Make sure you're on the layer with the plate, then grab your Selection tool. Set it like this:

Circle selection

Beginning in the center of your plate, drag the circle out until you have an area about 1/2 the diameter of the plate, like this:

Close up of circle selection

Copy the selection to the clipboard, then hit your delete key. (This will remove the center of the plate.)

Do not de-select.

Save your work!

10. Create a new layer. Go to Effects>3D Effects> Drop Shadow: Vertical=4, Horizontal=4, Opacity=60, Blur=8.00, Color=Black.

11. Repeat the Drop Shadow, but change the Vertical and Horizontal to -4 (minus 4).

12. Go to Edit>Paste>Paste into Selection.

13. Go to Selections>Float.

14. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Cutout: Vertical=2, Horizontal=2, Opacity=100, Blur=7.00, Color=Black.

15. Repeat the cutout, but change the Vertical to -2 and the Horizontal to -2 (minus 2).

De-select.

16. For that finishing touch, select all, then go to Selections>Float.
Go to Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add noise. Use 12% noise, Gaussian, Monochrome.

This will give your plate a bit of texture which will make it look more like wicker.

17. Go back to your layer palette and make the original layer visible again. Floodfill it with a background color, pattern or texture, and sign your name.

All done!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
